The Humdinger is Royal International supreme coloured

  • A splash of colour got the showing classes underway at the Royal International Horse Show, as the British skewbald and piebald championships ran from dawn until dusk at Hickstead.

With classes of over 20 finalists coming forward, judges were given plenty of food for thought, and on a hot, and sticky afternoon, Katy Carter stuck to her task as she rode a total of 77 horses in three classes.

At the end of 10 hours of continuous judging, Jayne Webber and The Humdinger took the supreme title for second successive year.

Carol Bardo, and Mandy Hughes’s Irish-bred eight-year-old piebald cob headed the largest line up of the day when standing top of the 32 strong native class, and he retained his sparkle to take the horse championship, and then the overall supreme.

Standing reserve supreme, were the pony champions, Sarah Harrison and Chantilly Lace. It had proved third time lucky for Sarah, who stood top of the large ridden pony class. Although her piebald mare had been a winner, and champion here previously, this was Sarah’s first Hickstead win.
