Rain and high winds stop play at Great Yorkshire Show

  • Showjumping at the Great Yorkshire Show in Harrogate was abandoned last night after the showground was hit by torrential rain and thunderstorms.

Riders such as Nick Skelton, Robert Smith and William Funnell had to contend with jumps blowing over, as well as the difficult underfoot conditions, so in the early evening organisers took the decision to cancel the qualifier for today’s Cock o’ the North class.

Showjumping was set to continue again this morning but, instead of riders having to qualify for the Cock o’ the North it is now open to any riders wishing to compete.
