No changes to Tripartite Agreement following swamp fever outbreak

  • No change will be made in the near future to the Tripartite Agreement, which allows free movement of horses between the UK, Ireland and France.

Officials from the three countries met in Dublin on 10 June to discuss the agreement.

This followed changes to Romanian export rules after the outbreak of swamp fever (equidea) in Britain and Belgium earlier this year (news, 20 May).

A Defra spokesman told H&H: “The categories of equidea were covered, but no consensus was reached in Dublin.”
