John Whitaker wins Royal Windsor grand prix

  • In a thrilling finale to Royal Windsor’s showjumping classes, John Whitaker won the Alltech grand prix with Uniek, his Newark and Notts Mattie Brown winner a week earlier.

Seven of the 23 starters went clear over Bob Ellis’s 1.60m track and the jump-off was run in reverse order of first-round times.

Charlotte Platt (Paulien) and Dan Moseley (Kepi D’Elle) both posted quick double clears from early draws to finish second and third respectively.

John was fifth to go with Andy and Alou Brake’s nine-year-old son of Concorde and, by taking a stride out to the final fence, they clinched the class.

“Every turn worked, if I do say so myself,” said John. “Uniek is a genuine horse who wants to get on and do it. He’s always got his ears forward looking for the next fence.”
