A horse has died and another suffered serious burns after a stable fire in Hampshire.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue attended the blaze, which broke out at Mill Field Farm in Denmead at 6.15am on Tuesday morning (23 March).
Harvey, a 12-year-old Arab cross died in the fire, and 7-year-old Welsh Section D Reggie was seriously injured.
Lewis Fuller, who owns Reggie with his partner Dwayne Tolfrey told H&H: “I got a message to go to the stables and thought Reggie had just escaped, as he has been known to do that.
“But when I arrived I was told there was a horse already dead.
“The stable was burning around him [Reggie] and the firefighters watched him jump out, his rug on fire. They removed it but part of it was melted to his back.”
The horse suffered severe blistering and burns on his back and face
“He’s at Liphook at the moment and the vet said we can take him home tomorrow,” said Lewis.
“But it’s touch and go as to how his skin heals, we may still have to have him put down. We were intending on doing some showing with him this year, but if he survives I want him to have a happy, quiet life.”
Fire crew manager Eric Barker told H&H the cause of fire is undetermined but not deemed to be suspicious.
