Injured serviceman Lieutenant Guy Disney finished second in his return to the racecourse today, in a charity race at Fakenham.
Amateur jockey Guy lost the lower part of his right leg serving in Helmand, Afghanistan last year. This was his first time back raceriding since the injury. He has a specially made “riding limb” fitted.
Guy, who was riding Oshkosh trained by Kim Bailey, was up against 11 fellow former East Anglian point-to-point jockeys.
Annie Bowles riding Wikaal, trained by Gordon Elliot won the race.
“That was really great fun and it felt very good,” Guy told the Racing Post.
“This has been at the back of my mind for a long time and it was a good test. I was never going to win, but it went better than I could have hoped.”
The money raised will be split between the Countryside Alliance and Help For Heroes.
