An online equestrian photography auction to raise money for the victims of the Haiti earthquake has raised more than £8,500.
The auction, organised by photographer Jon Stroud, featured work by 20 of the UK’s top equestrian photographers.
Every penny raised will go to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Haiti Earthquake appeal.
Bob Langrish’s photograph “Andalusia” took the top bid of £780.
And three of Tim Flach’s photographs went for over £720 each.
“We are extremely pleased,” Jon Stroud told H&H.
“We had no idea how much we would raise. We went in hoping we might get £50 a photo, but to raise £8,000 is fantastic.
“There was quite a last minute frenzy — especially on the Tim Flach ones.
“There were a couple of emotional purchases too — David Miller’s photo of Chris King and Rudolf III was bought by Zoe Jones, who owned the horse before he died last year. And Kit Houghton’s Charge bought by a former member of the Kings Troop.”
Liz Davies, chief executive of travel company Just Flights bought four photographs from the auction including the top seller Andalusia.
“The auction was such a good idea for a worthy cause,” said Liz.
“We are going to put three in the boardroom [Andalusia and Trakehner Pair, both by Bob Langrish and Submission by Jon Stroud] and then the Jimmy Choo [Adam Fanthorpe Jimmy Choos for Two] one in reception — it’s really unique.
“You can really see the power, beauty and spririt of the horse in these photos. I am thrilled to have them.
“Andalusia is particularly superb —it must be so hard to take a photo like that. It’s fantastic.”
