Looking for a novel and unique Christmas present? You may find the perfect gift in the British Equestrian Federation’s (BEF) ongoing online auction.
Gifts and experiences on offer range from box tickets to Cirque Du Soleil at the Royal Albert Hall, to a day with Mary King or even a whisky experience for two at Bruichladdich Single Malt Distillery in the Inner Hebrides.
The auction was launched last summer to raise funds to support teams competing at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games (WEG) in Kentucky next year (25 September-10 October 2010).
The British team hopes to take 51 horses in total to WEG, to compete in a range of disciplines, including dressage, eventing, show jumping, para-equestrian dressage, driving, endurance, reining and vaulting.
However, as only Olympic and Paralympic teams are supported by lottery funding, the BEF needs to raise £500,000 to support and fund the non-Olympic teams.
“This is the first time the games have ever been held outside Europe,” explained Will Connell, BEF equestrian performance director.
“To send full teams for all the disciplines and remain one of the top equestrian nations in the world, we need some public help.
“All of the proceeds of the auction will go towards sending the team to the Games and supporting our talented riders in their quest to compete and win on the world stage.”
