More riders than ever are .asking for financial assistance following serious injury., according to the Mark Davies Injured Riders Fund.
Since the charity launched its Poundcatcher appeal in early September, it has received unprecedented demands on its funds.
Requests for help from injured riders have trebled — and the charity urgently needs more donations says its patron Zara Phillips.
“Only a fraction of our Poundcatcher fundraising target has been reached so far,” said Zara — pictured right following a fall at Burghley Horse Trials.
“All involved with horses, in any shape or form, will acknowledge the risks and that accidents could so easily happen to them.”
Zara Phillips added: “So we would appeal to everyone to make a donation if they can.”
The Mark Davies Injured Riders Fund is the only UK charity which helps all those injured in horse-related accidents and in need — not just at top level and not just in eventing or racing.
The charity is running a raffle, encouraging riding clubs, Pony Clubs and riding schools to run their own fundraising events and selling Christmas cards to try and raise urgently needed funds.
