A leading horsebox builder has changed a vital component in its manufacturing process to make its vehicles lighter.
Oakley horseboxes is now fitting diesel heating systems to its Oakley lorries, so heavy gas bottles no longer need to be carried for horsebox heating or hot water systems.
Over the past months, horsebox weights and driving legislation has come under intense scrutiny — and increasing numbers of drivers are being stopped and their vehicles checked by VOSA (the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency).
Oakley managing director Andrew Oakley said the move is the latest step to save weight, as well as to improve vehicle performance, handling and economy.
The Webasto compact Thermo 90S diesel heating system gives interior warmth and hot water without the need to run the engine.
Andrew Oakley said: “We have forged a strong relationship with Webasto, who have worked with us to research and develop products suitable for our specific applications.
“Our customers demand the highest quality standards.”
