Horse attacked by a bear in Colorado

  • A horse that was attacked by a bear at a ranch in Colorado last week is expected to make a full recovery.

The 12-year-old horse, called Cody, was attacked sometime between 1am and 5am on Friday (18 September) in Aurora, near Denver.

Cody suffered severe lacerations to his neck, legs and sides but vets expect him to recover.

The Colorado Division of Wildlife found paw prints in the area and believe Cody was attacked by a 500-pound black bear.

Division of Wildlife spokesperson Jennifer Churchill told local press: “We don’t think at this time this bear is going to stay in that area or being going after livestock, it’s a rare kind of situation.

“They may have just ran into each other and scared each other and had a little tear-up there.”
