Olympic open weekend boasts five equestrian events


  • The second London 2012 Open Weekend (24-26 July), which aims to inspire people to get involved in sport in the lead up to the Olympics, will boast five horse-related events.

    Last year more than 700,000 people enjoyed Open Weekend events and oraganisers hope to attract even more this time

    The five horse related events are:

    Family horse riding at Callum Park Riding Centre, Sittingbourne, Kent on Saturday and Sunday 25 & 26 July in the afternoon. Have-a-go horse riding for the whole family. Booking essential. Call 01795 844258.

    Showjumping and showing show at Woodredon Equestrian Centre, Waltham Abbey, Essex. Open competition for all-comers. Sunday 26 July from 10am.

    Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron, Telford, Shropshire celebrates 300 years since the Industrial Revolution with live iron castings, heavy horses and much more. On 25 and 26 July.

    Lee Valley International Horseball Cup at the Lee Valley Riding Centre, Leyton, London stages the first London horseball competition. Horseball has been called basketball on horseback. See how you can get involved in this fast paced game on Saturday 25 July from 10am to 4pm.

    Discover the world of the horse at Horsham Museum, Horsham, Sussex, 24-26 July, from 10am to 5pm. Sculptures, saddlery
