A police horse has died while on a routine mounted patrol in Scotland.
Ten-year-old horse Fergie suffered a heart attack and died under his rider PC Nikki Marshall in Edinburgh last Tuesday (7 April).
He collapsed and died in the St Leonards area of the city.
Constable Nikki Marshall, who was riding Fergie at the time, managed to roll clear and was unhurt.
A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: “It is with sadness we confirm the death of police horse Fergie.
“Fergie was only about half the way through his working life and had been with Lothian and Borders Police for nearly five years.
“He was a very friendly horse with an excellent temperament and had successfully been involved in policing the PM’s visit, G8, Edinburgh Military Tattoo and numerous other sporting and ceremonial events.”
