Horse injured when shelter roof collapsed

  • A horse was injured in Wiltshire when a shelter roof collapsed on Friday (6 February) due to the weight of snow.

Three horses — Honey, Bluebell and Titus — were in an open-fronted shelter attached to a yard at Weir Farm, Broad Hinton, when the 20ft by 40ft roof collapsed.

The two mares escaped but Titus was trapped in the building.

Vet Alex McPherson, of Drove Veterinary Hospital, was called to the scene by Jo Anderson who keeps Titus at the farm.

He told H&H: “The whole roof had collapsed and there was just a narrow gap where they had got Titus out.

“There was blood all over the snow and the horse had a nasty gash around his left off hoof and a deep cut in the centre of his forehead.”

Titus is recovering well from his ordeal, Mr McPherson added.
