Rolette is not sold says Olympic show jumper Ben Maher

  • Rolette is not sold, Olympic show jumper Ben Maher has told H&H today.

Speaking from Horse of the Year Show this morning, Ben Maher said: “there has been a lot of interest in the horse, and talks are going on, but there have been no trials, no money has exchanged hands and she is still in my yard.”

With Ben, the 10-year-old mare Rolette scored Britain’s best round in Hong Kong this summer, and interest — and rumours of another possible sale — has been strong since.

But Ben said his relationship with the horse’s owner, Daniel Paul, is “as good as ever”. The rider said he is doing everything he can to keep the top-class horse.

“It’s a very difficult decision when people offer a lot of money, especially during these times — of course money is an issue,” said Ben.

The show jumper plans to take Rolette (pictured) to one or two shows before Christmas, bringing her back to the limelight at Olympia, the London International Horse Show.

He added: “It obviously doesn’t help rumours when I don’t bring her to HOYS, but that was never the plan.”
