Legendary racehorse trainer Jenny Pitman will officially launch The British Horse Society’s (BHS) new welfare campaign ‘In sickness and in health” at the Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead today, 25 July.
The campaign is to support the BHS’s work of preventing the suffering of thousands of horses and ponies.
Horse lovers are encouraged to make a donation of £3 a month — which will go towards campaigning to eradicate ragwort, providing up-to-date information on diseases such as West Nile Virus and African Horse Sickness and training more officers to respond to reports of cruelty or neglect.
BHS Welfare senior executive, Lee Hackett said: “Most horse welfare problems are not a result of intentional neglect or abuse. Often, a lack of knowledge is the cause and this is why our belief in prevention of suffering through education is so important.
