Brazilian rider suffers serious fall at Aachen CHIO

  • Top Brazilian show jumper Alvaro Miranda has suffered a bad fall at Aachen’s CHIO this afternoon.

Eyewitnesses said it appeared as though the outcome could have been worse had it not been for the actions of a group of photographers.

Alvaro was riding the nine-year-old Ad Ornella in a grand prix qualifier when the mare put her legs through part of a double sending her rider over her head.

However, Alvaro’s legs became entangled in the stirrups and he remained attached to Ad Ornella as she started to bolt. But a group of photographers nearby intervened and stopped the horse and the saddle removed to free the rider.

Alvaro has been taken away by paramedics. Early reports suggest that the rider has suffered a leg injury.
