The victory was also a first Group One for 36-year-old Ralph Beckett, who trains at Whitsbury in Hampshire.
“Epsom has been my favourite course ever since I left school, and to win a big race here is wonderful. It was always my dream to win the Derby, but the Oaks is a very good second!” said Julian Richmond-Watson.
Soldier Of Fortune won a first-class renewal of the Coronation Cup under Johnny Murtagh, holding off a late charge from Youmzain and Richard Hughes.
