A new beach donkey code of practice was presented to the mayor of Blackpool, Cllr Robert Wynne, last Friday (4 April).
Written by the Donkey Sanctuary, the code of practice is endorsed by the British Equine Veterinary Association.
Blackpool is the first resort to receive a copy of the code that aims to standardise levels of care and welfare across the UK.
It suggests donkeys should work no more than six days a week and the weight limit for riders should not exceed eight stone (51kg).
