A Bill designed to help reduce rising insurance premiums in riding schools and equine businesses is scheduled to have its second reading today (19 October, ’07).
The Bill, drafted by the Country Land and Business Association (CLA), calls for an amendment to the Animals Act 1971, so that owners are not always held responsible for the way their animals behave (H&H news, 19 April).
Stephen Crabb, Tory MP for Preseli Pembrokeshire, who published the Bill, said that although it is on the agenda for today, it might not be heard.
“There are quite a lot of Private Members’ Bills that day, so I don’t think it will get heard, in which case it will fall,” he said. “But I’m assured that it has government support, and by publishing the Bill we’re keeping the issue on the agenda and dialogue open.”
