Prague CSIO show jumping

  • Chef d’equipe Mike Florence and his squad returned to Britain from the Czech Republic in triumph after winning the Nations Cup at the four-star Prague CSIO.

The British quartet was William Whitaker, competing on his first senior team, 21-year-old Charlotte Platt, Geoff Luckett and German-based Chris Frazer.

Chris and Magic Boy did not have the happiest first round over the course set by British designer Mark McGowan. Geoff (Monline) and Charlotte (Lacanda) produced foot-perfect clears but collected a time-fault apiece. William Whitaker then jumped a superb clear on Arielle to put Britain in second place behind Germany at the halfway stage.

In round two Geoff Luckett went clear and another single fault for Charlotte left William needing a double clear to secure Britain’s victory. The result was never in doubt and another sensational round gave Britain victory by the narrowest margin of one fault.

“This was an outstanding achievement against incredible opposition and the teamwork was superb,” said a delighted Mike Florence.
