    • Young event riders from 18 nations will be heading to Blair Castle International Horse Trials and Country Fair (23-26 August) at Blair Atholl, Perthshire next month to contest the FEI European Young Rider Eventing Championship.

    The young rider Europeans are open to riders aged up to 21 and some 70 competitors are expected to compete for individual and team glory over the two-star course. Britain has an outstanding record in the championship, winning 49 medals including 21 golds and 13 team titles since it began in 1981.

    This year the Princess Royal, who first suggested to the late Duke of Atholl that the grounds of Blair Castle would make a perfect venue for a horse trials event, will be presenting the winners with their medals. The princess is the patron of the event’s nominated charity, the Riding for the Disabled Association, and will be meeting local volunteers and fund-raisers during her visit.

    In addition to the young rider European championship, Blair will also be hosting its regular three-, two- and one-star competitions, organised by Atholl Estates. Spectators will be able to enjoy two days of cross-country excitement on Friday and Saturday, as well as dressage on Thursday and Friday and show jumping on Saturday and Sunday.

    As well as top class eventing action, visitors can look forward to enjoying the spectacular displays at the Bruadar Country Fair include Jumpin’ Jake’s Farmer Ted Show and Skyhigh Falconry. Highland and native ponies, hunters and show jumpers also have their opportunities to shine in the magnificent grounds of Blair Castle.
