Royal Windsor: Sunday evening show jumping

  • There was a certain air of inevitability when the show jumping at this year’s Royal Windsor Horse Show ended with a victory for the Whitaker family. This time it was 17-year-old William Whitaker who was triumphant in the Accenture Young Riders Grand Prix.

William produced a fantastic jump-off round from first draw on the grey mare Arielle and, although 16-year-old Matt Sampson chased him all the way on another mare, Duncan Inglis’s Miss Sante, he had to settle for second place.

William will now leave to compete in Madrid.

“Up to now, I’ve had one of those shows you prefer to forget, but this has made things much better,” said the reigning junior European Champion.
