Royal Windsor: Saturday evening show jumping

  • The Whitaker wonderland at Royal Windsor continued on Saturday night. After five rounds of jumping over the huge wall it was impossible to separate father and son John and Robert Whitaker, who shared the honours in the George of England Puissance.

John and Robert were only ones to clear 2.13m (7ft) in round four and could have divided first prize at that stage. But they decided to entertain the capacity crowd with one more round over the same height and Lactic and Finbarr were foot-perfect again.

This was the seventh puissance win for Finbarr, while John has lost count of Lactic’s victories. “But he felt better than ever tonight,” he said.

Earlier in the evening, Gemma Plumley continued her young riders’ dominance with a flying Accenture Accumulator win on Continue B, leaving the rider from South Wales with two wins and a second place from the three classes to date. She is now hoping to complete her hat-trick in Sunday night’s grand prix.
