Royal Windsor: Saturday show jumping

  • The “Robert Whitaker Show” continued apace on Saturday at Royal Windsor, where the 24-year-old Yorkshireman won his fourth class, lunchtime’s Land Rover Grade A.

Seven of a strong field reached the jump-off and Robert rode a stunning round from fifth draw with Prima Vera to hold off his father, John, on Utah Van Erpekom by 0.04sec.

“It’s taken three years to get to grips with her, but things are finally coming together,” said Robert afterwards.

The earlier Thomas Bates speed class came to an exciting conclusion when Guy Williams jumped one of his trademark rounds on Una to win from Peter Charles and Murka’s Rock Star.

There was also a close finish to the Land Rover Services Teams jumping. Three teams went into round two on a zero score and all were clear again. They were divided by time and the narrow winners were The King’s Troop A, comprising Officer Commanding Erica Bridge and husband and wife Bombadier Ryan and Lance Bombadier Claire Haigh.
