Police are investigating a knife attack which left an 11.2hh pony in Devon with a seven inch wound. Boycey, a nine-year-old Welsh section A needed stitches after his owner, Rosy Preston, discovered the injury at Broadhempston, Totnes at 4:30pm on 21 March.
The pony had been stabled during the day at the yard in an isolated area near Broadhemston. After finding no sharp objects in the box, Rosy alerted Devon and Cornwall Police who are treating the incident as “serious.”
“Someone went into the stable and cut the pony with something sharp causing a 7in long, 2in deep cut,” a police spokesperson confirmed.
The cut to Boycey’s hindquarters went through layers of muscle but was made with a clean object so is healing well, according to Rosy.
“I really don’t know who could have done this,” she told HHO. “He was in his stable all day and the person exercising the horses left at 2:30pm. The wound looked disgusting – it was such a deep cut with layers of muscle exposed. ”
She believes the incident happened some time between 2.30pm and 4.30pm last Wednesday.
Boysey has been ridden by Rosy’s daughter Scarlet, 12, for the past six years.
