Harry Charles
British showjumper Harry Charles is one of the country’s most exciting young riders and the 22-year-old made his debut in the Olympic showjumping at the Tokyo Games with his horse Romeo 88.
In December at London International Horse Show, he became the first rider in 16 years to win both the World Cup qualifier and take top spot the grand prix.
Born in 1999, Harry is the eldest son of London 2012 Olympic team gold medallist Peter Charles and has been competing in showjumping all his life, enjoying great success on youth teams – winning a handful of European Championship medals – and now as a senior rider. His two sisters Sienna and Scarlett are also following in the family footsteps.
At the age of 16, Harry beat his father to win the Welsh Masters, becoming the youngest rider to win the title.
His Olympic partner Romeo 88 is owned by Ann Thompson and Harry has only been riding the 12-year-old gelding since the start of 2021.
“Seeing my dad compete in London [2012 Olympics] was a real eye-opener for me, I saw what you could achieve and just how big the sport can be,” says Harry.
