Isabell Werth
Isabell Werth, born on 21 July 1969, is one of the world’s most prolific dressage riders.
The five-time German Olympian is the world’s most decorated equestrian and holds the record for the most Olympic medals won by any rider.
Isabell won team gold with Germany in 1992 (Barcelona), 1996 (Atlanta), 2000 (Sydney), 2008 (Hong Kong), 2016 (Rio) and at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Games, held in 2021 due to Covid-19. She has won gold at every Olympic Games she has ridden at, also clinching individual gold in 1996 with Gigolo and individual silver in Tokyo with Bella Rose 2.
She also has nine World Championship and 17 European Championship medals to her name.
Her current top horses are 17-year-old Belissimo M mare Bella Rose 2, the 16-year-old reigning world champion whom Isabell describes as her “dream horse”, and Weihegold OLD, a 16-year-old daughter of Don Schufro, with whom Isabell has won the World Cup three years in a row.
Isabell Werth is also the president of the International Dressage Riders’ Club, having been elected in December 2020.
