Victory for Britain at Olympia

  • Robert Smith jumped two stunning clears to finish first in the prestigious Links of London Grand Prix. The pair’s performance of unbeatable speed and precision earned them the £40,000 prize purse.

John and Ellen Whitaker also made it into the top six and Olympia ended with John Whitaker crowned Leading Rider of the Show.

Ireland’s Jessica Kurten gave Robert Smith a run for his money. Kurten and Castle Forbes Libertina jumped with lightening speed, leaving Smith no margin for error.

A nail-biting round saw Smith finishing 0.20 sec faster, pushing Kurten into second place. Austria’s Thomas Fruhman finished third with John Whitaker and Exploit de Roulard in fourth position. Ellen Whitaker, recently voted Rookie of the Year in America, took sixth position on AK Locarno.

But Britain’s triumph proved to be double-edged. Christmas Masters winner, the legendary John Whitaker, was called back into the arena and crowned Leading Rider of the Show.
