Showjumper Tony Andre Hansen loses appeal against Olympic ban

  • Norwegian showjumper Tony Andre Hansen has lost a further appeal against his disqualification from the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games — this time to the Swiss Supreme Court.

Mr Hansen’s ride Camiro tested positive for the banned substance capsaicin during the equestrian events in Hong Kong in August 2008.

International horse sport’s governing body, the FEI, suspended Mr Hansen from competition for four and a half months (21 August 2008 to 2 January 2009) and disqualified him from all placings at the Games.

This meant the Norwegian showjumping team lost its bronze medal.

Mr Hansen made an unsuccessful appeal to the Court of Arbitration in Sport (CAS) and now the Swiss Supreme Court, which dismissed his case on 30 July.
