Rescue dogs named after Olympic showjumping gold medalists

  • Nick Skelton, Ben Maher, Peter Charles and Scott Brash are all up for adoption. Well, at least their canine namesakes are.

Four homeless dogs have been named after the gold medal-winning British showjumpers by Battersea Dogs and Cats Home to honour the riders’ Olympic success.

Ten-week-old shih tzu Skeltie (above) is looking for a home, as is her sister, who has been named Maher (below), and brother Scott (pictured top right).

They are joined by Peter, a one-year-old Staffordshire bull terrier who arrived at Battersea as a stray.

“Skeltie, Maher, Scott and Peter are the perfect names for these dogs,” said Claire Porteous of Battersea. “Like the gold medallists, they are all intelligent and driven and clearly have their eyes on the prize, as they want to bag a new home.”

The dogs are among 26 dogs and cats at Battersea who have recently been named after gold medal champions — others include Jack Russell Murray, Staffies Mo, Ben and Jessica and golden retriever Rutherford.
