North Norfolk PC win Burghley SJ title

  • The North Norfolk branch of the Pony Club claims Burghley show jumping title for the second year in a row

The North Norfolk branch of the Pony Club has won the Pony Club Team Jumping competition, sponsored by Petplan Equine, at Burghley International Horse Trials for the second year in a row.

The competition, which is open to pony club members aged under 18, took place during the Pedigree Burghley Horse Trials. More than 35 teams came forward to contest the show jumping class, which saw four teams go forward to the jump off.

The North Norfolk team of sisters Alex (17) and Rachel Browning (15), Cathy Love (17) and Daisy Peasgood (13) claimed the Challenge Trophy from the Cottesmore branch. Alex and Cathy were also part of last year’s successful team.

“The course was stiffer than this year’s area competition, and certainly bigger in the jump off,” said North Norfolk PC committee member Helen Love. “The girls wereabsolutely delighted to win as they had just gone along for fun. Lots of other members also came along to support the team which gave the girls an amazing lift.”

Third place was taken by Burton Hunt PC with Cambridgeshire Hunt PC in fourth. The Harewood Trophy for the best turned out team went to Rufford PC.
