Irish students go head to head

  • All-Ireland student riding championships will take place on 22-24 February

Twenty-one colleges have so far confirmed entries for the All-Ireland Student Riding Championships, to be held at Gurteen Agricultural College, Roscrea, Co Tipperary on 22-24 February.

Organised by the Athlone Institute of Technology and Gurteen Agricultural College, the intervarsities operate under the rules of IURCA (The Irish Universities Riding Clubs Association) which is an affiliate member of the Equestrian Federation of Ireland.

Events will include dressage and show jumping with both team and individual sections, and a team only prix caprilli.

Prizes will be awarded for both individual and team performances in each discipline, with each competition combined to provide an overall top university award.

In both the show jumping and dressage competitions, riders compete according to a knockout system. This means that two or three riders compete against one another on the same horse, and the rider who achieves the highest points goes through to the next round.
