BSJA steward Bob Hurford loses battle against cancer


  • British Show Jumping Association stipendiary steward Bob Hurford passed away on Wednesday, 9 July after a private battle with bone cancer.

    Bob, 76, who had been a steward of the association for 25 years, was a former mounted officer with the Metroplitan Police. During his time in uniform, he won numerous accolades including the Horse of the Year Show’s best-trained police horse title with his favourite horse and beat partner, Sandown.

    He was very well known on the show jumping circuit and will be sadly missed. He leaves behind his partner Janice Furze.

    Bob’s funeral will be held on Monday 21 July at 12.15pm at St Mark’s Church, Whiteley Village, Walton-on-Thames, Surrey. Family flowers only please. Donations should be made to Sam Beare Hospice. Visit: www.sambearehospice-friends.com
