Michael Whitaker and GIG Amai will not be contesting the European Championships in Madrid (13-18 September) after the horse sustained an injury in last week’s Nations Cup in Rotterdam (26 August).
“He’s picked up a small injury which will prevent him from competing in the Europeans,” British team performance manager Rob Hoekstra told H&H.
“He jumped very, very well in the Nations Cup. It’s unfortunate and it’s only a small injury but after discussion we have decided that it is not worth the risk, with next year in mind.”
Robert Smith and Talan will also be missing out on the competition as Talan too has picked up a small injury.
The team will be: Scott Brash riding Intertoy Z, Ben Maher and Tripple X III, Nick Skelton and Carlo, John Whitaker riding Peppermill and Guy Williams with Titus II.
Rob added: “We are taking a strong team to Madrid, with a combination of the Nations Cups teams that won in Dublin and had a great result in Rotterdam. There’s a great mixture of young and experienced riders on the squad and it’s great to welcome Guy on board for his first championships.”
