Show star of the 80s put down

  • Periglen, the undisputed lightweight show hunter champion of the 1980s, has been put down at the age of 27.

He was bought at the Taunton HIS sale as an unbroken three-year-old, and was ridden by Jane Crofts throughout his illustrious showing career.

Wins and championships included the Royal Show, the South of England, the East of England (three years running), Kent County and Horse of The Year Show. He was considered by judges to be a wonderful, balanced ride who could really gallop.

He will be sorely missed by his owners, Surrey-based Jane and Andy Crofts, and by his dedicated partner Lucinda Tomkins, who rode and looked after him throughout his retirement.
