The British Show Pony Society (BSPS) has moved the date of its summer championship to the August Bank Holiday weekend to make it easier for people to attend.
The show has traditionally taken place the weekend after the bank holiday, but this would place the show outside the summer holiday period for some schools.
Spokesman Nigel Hollings explains: “Some children are back at school the week after the bank holiday — 10 years ago you could take children out of school quite easily but you can’t now. The change is intended to be permanent.”
The new date for the show is Saturday 28 to Tuesday 31 August 2004, which does not clash with Ponies UK’s summer championships, which will take place on 17-21 August.
Course-builders’ conference
The BSPS is holding its biennial conference for course-builders and senior stewards this Sunday at Peterborough Showground.
Participants will discuss the relationship between course-builders, stewards and judges, including what should be done if a steward thinks that a judge has broken the rules.
