Leicester County hit by hard ground

  • Leicestershire County Show was beset by problems due to the recent hard going. On the advice of course-designer David Cole, all the major show jumping classes — including an Area Trial — were cancelled on the Thursday before the show. The showing judges were also warned that galloping should be kept to a minimum.

In previous years, the Melton Mowbray airfield venue has been a mudbath and a new drainage system was installed after last year’s show.

“I feel so sorry for the organisers, but few riders would have been prepared to jump big fences on that going,” said David Cole, who will advise the committee on ground preparation for next year’s show.
