HOYS small hunter winner Unlimited measured out mid-season

  • Connections of the 2009 Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) small hunter winner Unlimited are in the process of appealing after the horse measured out last month.

Unlimited, owned by Peter Bowdler and ridden by show producer Charles le Moignan was remeasured at 159cm by the Joint Measurement Board on 28 June. The maximum height allowed in small hunter classes is 158cm (approximately 15.2hh).

Mr le Moignan told H&H: “He was only measured out by 1cm and he was in show condition at the time of remeasuring so we are appealing.

“It’s extremely disappointing to be measured out mid-season, the horse has been out six times this season and won on all occasions and has qualified for HOYS.

“I believe it’s a case of the green-eyed monster in whoever objected. It’s ruined this season and if it stands it will be the end of the road for [us in] small hunters but we may bring him out as a riding horse.”
