Design an Olympic show jump

  • Budding artists and course designers are being invited to submit a show jump design for the Beijing Olympics. A £650 first prize, along with a £530 second prize and a £325 third prize is being offered by the organising committee to the design which best conveys the theme of the Beijing Olympics and Hong Kong’s cultural identity. The winning design will be made into a show jump by craftsmen in Hong Kong and jumped by contestants at the Olympics.

The competition is open to juniors (below 16-years-old), senior (16-years-old and above) and professionals. Designs must be presented on A4 paper and mounted on a black 510mm x 382 mm board. The name of the show jump plus a description of no more than 200 words must be included on a separate piece of A4 paper.

Award winning designs and those of the finalists will be put on display in Hong Kong during the Olympics. “The Jumping Fence should convey the theme of the Beijing Olympics and Hong Kong’s cultural identity, and give the spectators enhanced visual pleasure and excitement,” said a spokesperson for the Beijing Olympic Equestrian Committee.

Entries should be submitted together with all required documents and an application form (see below) in an envelope marked “Jumping Fence Design Competition” by post or by hand to the designated collection office on or before 28 February 2007.
