Racegoers at Newmarket are being warned not to buy tickets from touts after a significant number of forged premier enclosure tickets were sold during last weeks July Festival.
Seventy racegoers who purchased tickets from car park touts last Friday (13 July) had to pay again when the tickets were identified as forgeries at the turnstiles.
Newmarkets managing director Lisa Hancock said: Our message to all racegoers is unequivocal please do not buy tickets from touts, as you are almost certainly throwing your money away.
Its incredibly frustrating that the police are powerless to move touts on. Some of our security staff had to take a lot of abuse from one or two of the touts. It is a highly unsatisfactory situation.
Well have to review our ticketing process for next year a return to issuing tickets as well as badges may be necessary.
