Galileo sister tops a million


  • Full sister to Galileo, sells for more than one million guineas on the third day of Tattersall’s December Sale.

    The sale of a top filly, out of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner, Urban Sea and by Sadler’s Wells was eagerly awaited by many at Tattersall’s December Sale. She was bought by John Magnier, who placed a single bid of 1,100,000 guineas.

    Trade during the day saw 178 lots sold for a total of 7,459,000 guineas, at an average of 41,904 guineas and a median of 20,000 guineas. This was a rise in aggregate of 28%, while the average rose 19% on last year’s corresponding session.

    Another filly, half-sister to Vodafone Oaks third Mexxogiorno, saw interest from several buyers before being sold for 325,000 guineas. The third highest priced lot for the day was the 290,000 guineas paid for the Grand Lodge colt out of Stakes winning Vijaya.

    At the end of the first week of the Tattersalls December Sales, chairman Edmond Mahony expressed delight at the strong demand for foals and noting that the market was strong, particularly at the 20,000 to 50,000 guineas level.

    The Tattersalls December Foal Sale concluded on Saturday with 118lots selling for a total of 3,732,700 guineas, at an average of 31,633.

    The highlight of the final day was a Desert Prince colt selling for 240,000 guineas, while another two lots broke the 200,000 guineas barrier.
