The “Amerigo Protector Dressage Girth” is cut well away from the elbow giving the horse plenty of room.

It is made from soft leather with a wipeable rubber outer shell on the plate next to the chest, and has elastic straps and a D ring at the front for training aids.

“The role of the girth as the cause of reluctant forward movement due to painful bruises in the elbow and rib areas is often underestimated,” said an Amerigo spokesman.

“But the special shape of the Protector girth and the innovative use of materials protect the delicate area around the elbow.”

The girth is made in Italy using Italian leather and costs £260.
