Zara Phillips is celebrating her impending nuptials in traditional aristocratic fashion this week, with an appearance on the Country Life frontispiece.
For generations the magazine’s “girls in pearls” page has been the place for top-drawer girls — or more probably their mothers — to announce their engagements and more recently business ventures.
But the former eventing world champion eschewed pearls and a pretty dress to be photographed by a log pile in clothes from her sponsor Musto.
The blurb reads: “Zara, daughter of The Princess Royal and Captain Mark Phillips, is engaged to be married to Mike Tindall, younger son of Mr and Mrs Philip Tindall of the West Riding, Yorkshire. They will be married on July 30 at Canongate Kirk in Edinburgh. She is pictured here with Storm, the labrador.”
Princess Anne was also a frontispiece in 1971, for her 21st birthday.
