World’s first feature length film about polo heads for the big screen

  • The world’s first feature length film about polo will soon be hitting the the big screen.

The Polo Kid is a 62-minute documentary telling the true story of three-goal player Santiago Torres, a teenager from a humble background who left home and school behind and is fast becoming the world’s youngest polo star.

Santiago’s journey takes him from the polo fields of California to Argentina, Florida, New York and Mexico

Director Nathaniel McCullagh hopes the film will promote polo to the wider public.

“I wanted to make a film that went beyond the mechanics of polo to show the human side of what it takes to become a star,” he said.

“I also hoped to open the sport out to a wider audience in order to shed its elitist image.

“As well as telling Santi’s compelling story of hope and struggle, we’ve got some beautiful polo from all over the US, Mexico and Argentina and great polo characters.

“We’ve also got a few superstars including Adolfo Cambiaso, Nacho Figueras and Owen Rinehart — who all had a lot to add to Santi’s story. I’m really hopeful that this film can become a major force in bringing polo to a mass audience”.

The film also features several of the worlds best polo players including Adolfo Cambiaso, Mariano Aguerre and Nacho Figueras.

The Polo Kid is comes out in March.
