What you didn’t know about… Dingbat

  • Team chase rider Sarah Myhill tells H&H about the ‘brilliant lunatic’ who will only run in the lead.

    Fact file

    Stable name: Dingers

    Age: 19

    Height: 16.1hh

    Discipline: team chasing

    Sire: State Diplomacy

    Dam: Little Possum

    Owner: Sarah Myhill

    Groom: Sarah Myhill

Top results: winning the 2009 and 2011 National Championships, and the 2010-11 league

    Five things you didn’t know…

1 Sarah dare not jump him over a practice fence at a team chase because he refuses. “He’s saving his energy for the real thing,” she says.

2 He has not missed a single team chase since spring 2008 — Sarah broke her neck in October 2007 and so missed most of the autumn season.

3 He evented with Zara Phillips from 2002-04. He has 22 British Eventing points and competed up to intermediate level.

4 Dingbat is often left unclipped as he lives out.

5 When Sarah calls her horses off the hill for breakfast, Dingbat has to be in front and his leadership is never challenged by others.
