Tack thefts

  • A yard owner was attacked by thieves as they made away with £25,000 of tack from his home last month.

David Douglas, 67, of Uckfield in East Sussex, was left concussed and bruised after being kicked and punched by one of four men who broke into his yard on 16 June.

Mr Douglas’s daughter, Sarah, said that although her father had recovered from the ordeal, her family was still in shock.

She said: “It’s one thing to have stuff stolen, quite another to have someone attack you.
“We’ve lost 25 saddles, numerous bridles, other tack and farm machinery.”

Anyone with information should contact Uckfield CID (tel: 0845 60 70 999).

Meanwhile, another major theft took place in Oxfordshire last week. Over £40,000 worth of tack was stolen from a yard near Kidlington on 11 July.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Thames Valley Police (tel: 08458 505 505), quoting CRN JD 9759156/07.
