Shetland man gets five year horse ownership ban

  • A SHETLAND crofter has been banned from keeping horses and ponies for five years after pleading guilty to three charges of animal cruelty.

Tommy Jamieson, 43, was also given 240 hours of community service when he appeared at Lerwick Sherrif Court today, Wednesday.

The Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) and police visited a field used by Jamieson of Walls, in February after reports of a dead pony lying there as well as seven other malnourished ponies.

They said they welcomed the decision to ban Jamieson from owning ponies.
