Auchinleck Horse Trials axed by BE

  • British Eventing (BE) has withdrawn one of Scotland’s longest established horse trials venues from the eventing calendar due to its patchy running record.

Aly Boswell has been running Auchinleck Horse Trials at her home in Ayrshire since 1984, but it has fallen foul to the weather on multiple occasions.

Last year BE gave the go ahead for the event to continue, but only from grass-roots to novice level.

This year the horse trials on 7 June was cancelled again due to wet weather, but an event on 21 July did go ahead.

BE’s Mike Etherington-Smith told H&H the decision had been made in order to find an alternative venue that could “provide a more reliable fixture for the membership”.

Mrs Boswell said: “It is a great sadness for Scotland. It really is a nice old-fashioned well-built course and I have had hundreds of responses from people about its cancellation.

“I don’t want to rock the boat, but I hope BE manage to think again.”
