Scott Brash collects €100,000 bonus

  • British showjumper Scott Brash earned a bumper €100,000 jackpot when jumping a double clear in the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup final in Barcelona at the weekend.

The sponsors offered a bonus fund of €200,000 (£167,140) to be split between any riders who could maintain a clean sheet across 2 rounds. Only the 27-year-old Scot, riding Lady Harris and Lady Kirkham’s 12-year-old mare Ursula XII, and Canada’s Eric Lamaze (Powerplay) succeeded, splitting the prize-pot between them.

“I knew there was a lot at stake because the bonus money was big and I saw it getting bigger and bigger as those with clears faulted,” said Scott of the 10 riders who went through to Sunday’s final with a clear in hand. “I imagine Eric was a bit annoyed that I took €100,000 off him, though!”

Despite Scott’s double clear, Great Britain could only finish 8th of 18 teams, with France soaring to victory in a close battle with Brazil (2nd) and Ireland (3rd).
